Culm Levels

As part of our commitment to ensure transparency we’d like to address an incident on Culm.
It was raised to us this week that the Culm was considerably lower than usual summer level so Committee members visited the apparent effected area today to be greeted with water levels approx 3ft off usual.
With some investing it’s down to a structural failure on the weir at Silverton/Beare. The weir has breached causing a considerable drop in the upstream beats.
The fishery is now substantially shallower and has pace and flows where usually a slow meandering river passed through. At first glance there was no obvious signs of fish in distress and the authorities are aware.
This is as much as we can currently report and will monitor accordingly.

Many thanks
