Brief description of fishery:
Abbrook Pond is a mature, stream fed, former clay pit of nearly 3 acres in size. Dating back to the 1930s it is one of the oldest fishing lakes in the county. Divided in to two main areas by a bridge, the main body of water varies in depth from 2ft to 15ft in places and has a host of features including lily pads, reeds, bars, plateaus and silt areas. The back area of the lake is more uniform, it averages 2-3ft and is an ideal stalking area.
Due to being stream fed with inlets and outlets the water level tends to stay the same and provides a healthy ecosystem for the fish. The lake is very picturesque during the spring and summer when the lilies are abundant, with a host of wildlife present including kingfishers, birds of prey and even deer!
The lake is well maintained by a dedicated team of bailiffs. In recent years they have installed gravel paths, solid swims, a secure gate/fence and maintain a regular stocking programme.

Access & Parking
On the A380 Exeter to Torquay dual-carriageway, just before Newton Abbot turn left onto the Kingsteignton road B3195, passing under the dual carriageway, continue past the Ten Tors pub and at the roundabout, turn right past the playing fields. Turn left at the next roundabout down Strap Lane. Continue to the traffic lights (old toll house on your right) and turn right. Although the road is marked as closed, ignore this. After 100 yards the pond entrance will be on your right but continue along the road and do a U turn to come back to the layby so that you are parked with the flow of the traffic to make pulling out safer.
Through the secure gate, there is a parking area.
Species
The lake is very well stocked with a variety of species to suit all anglers. The lake contains roughly 100 carp up to a current weight of 26lb, with the majority in double figures. In recent years the fish have spawned well and there are now some smaller fish starting to get caught. Boilie, corn and pellet all work well on here and the fish are not too difficult to catch.
For the pleasure angler, there are good numbers of tench to 5lb, skimmers and bream to 5lb, perch to 3lb and a very good number of silver fish. Pike are present to 20lb as well as recently stocked crucian carp. Eels and trout are also present.
