River Otter (Ottery St. Mary)

Fly Fishing Only

This is a new venue for the association. The fishing rights for approximately 100 yards of the River Otter have been acquired within the last 12 months. With no previous catch history to go on, the size of fish is unknown but this location is Trout fishing only and a closed season applies, check local E.A. bylaws. The main stretch is best fished when there is a good depth and flow, but a deeper pool, between the island and the leat outlet, may bring results.

Boundaries

Upriver – at the end of the ‘island’, just to the right of the access steps. Downriver – Where the ‘new build brick wall’ meets the footpath wall.

Address

Travelling from Exeter, take the B3174 towards Ottery St. Mary. After crossing the river, take the first left into Tumbling Weir Way. Follow the road as far as the hotel car park, there are access steps at the end of the wall on the left. There is no available car parking at this venue, use of the public car park ‘Caanan Way car park’, approximately 2 minutes further along the B3174 is recommended. Exit the rear of the car park, cross the leat and follow the left hand path for approximately 150 yards. This will bring you out at the mid point of the venue.
