Winter Pike & Predator fishing

** Winter Pike Fishing **

As a club we want to ensure that everyone wishing to fish for them are doing so in a safe manor for the safety of the Pike and of course you the member!

As a requirement of predator fishing all members must have the appropriate kit at hand at all times such as

– suitable landing net preferably rubber coated but most importantly large enough to handle fish that can exceed 1 metre in length

– unhooking mat…. Now pretty much every brand in the UK offer up various mats be it large ones for the deadbaiting to easily portable for the lure anglers.

– unhooking tools again a vital part of the predator anglers kit. long nosed forceps and pliers are again readily available online and in store. Most of which have a cutter if you need to remove hooks, you can carry a few tools in a bag no problem and that will assist you in unhooking fish

– appropriate gear for the intended species we understand that Perch lure fishing is one of fastest growing aspects of the sport and we are not expecting the light lure guys to be using the same kit the static deadbaiting guys are using! An element of common sense to be used but this still means we expect appropriate nets and tools for the job. Likewise we wouldn’t want to see a Pike angler fishing with a small net etc it’s common sense and the information is readily available regards to what’s considered appropriate/safe

If you are new to Pike/Predator fishing with Dead’s or Lures we recommend you fish with someone competent and experienced where you can learn the basics before heading out alone. Resources like YouTube and the many associations and society’s such as

– Pike Anglers Club
– Lure Anglers Society
– Pike Fly Fishing Association

Along with online websites and Facebook etc there is a wealth of knowledge out there to help you have a successful season and we hope you all have a great winter season targeting our Pike and Perch

Best Regards
